My name is Tamsin Terry-Lush and I have joined TMP Worldwide. Previous to that I was at Lloyds Banking Group, where I was Head of Recruitment for Community Banks for three and a half years. Previous to that at Barclays, previous to that at a supplier-side consultancy.
I decided to join TMP as I’d reached a point where I was looking for a new opportunity. I’d been with Lloyds Banking Group for a reasonable period of time and had worked for two financial services organisations. So I was looking for a role where I could combine that experience, which was fantastic, with the supplier side experience I had from before in recruitment consultancy.
And I think it’s quite a unique role in that it offers me the chance to do that. I’m dealing with customers just like Lloyds Banking Group on a daily basis but I get to work with a variety of customers and deliver very different services to each of those.
The primary motivation for me, in terms of joining TMP, was to have an opportunity to head up two of the regional teams in Bristol and Birmingham. This is a part of the country I know well and also love because I live in that location. Those teams are in places that we are looking to grow and develop those business areas.
I think both in Bristol and in the Midlands there are some really unique opportunities in terms of clients that are either moving to these locations or are existing clients that we are not actively working with at the moment. So that opportunity to really take those teams to a different phase, in terms of their development, is fantastic.
Reactions from people that know me have been really positive. Most people have actually seen the real synergies from what I’ve done up until now and how it fits into this opportunity. I think there has also been some surprise as I did enjoy working at Lloyds Banking Group. It was a chance to do something distinctly new and different. It was the right time to make a change.
I think my perception and how I view employer brand has changed a little since joining TMP but what has actually happened is that most of what I considered previously has been reaffirmed.
So for me the importance of employer branding is around the candidate understanding, really specifically, right from the point of applying to an advert, right to actually joining. The candidate should have the same feeling around that organisation. And actually that there is a real distinctiveness about that – that is true to the organisation they join.
And I think that we talk about employer branding a huge amount but don’t always get into the actual detail that you need to ensure that it is the true experience the person has. So I think it’s reaffirmed my view on how important it is. And never more so when trying to find the right people is so challenging and it’s such a competitive market.
