How graduates' attitudes to skills are changing in the current economic climate.
Amidst all the current economic uncertainty and upheaval, there is one thing you would expect to remain unchanged: skills will always be highly valued by
employers and employees alike.
But do some skills become more highly valued than others? Do employers end up compromising over learning and development? Do employees still have the
same attitude towards acquiring skills?
We surveyed 645 final year students and people at the very beginning of their careers to find out what they thought. Our results reveal that, while some attitudes towards skills and skill development remain firmly entrenched, others appear to be shifting in response to the economic climate – and not necessarily in the way employers would like.
The survey is divided into two parts. The first part concerns the views of final-year university students.
The second part concerns the views of early-career graduates (graduates in their first or second year of employment).
