Saluting two fingers
The original Google Gadget ad
Occasionally a piece of digital technology comes along that's far too good to ignore. The Google Gadget was one such piece of technology. What is a Google Gadget? It's an online advertising format, run on Google's content network, which enables you to fit all the functionality and interactivity of a typical website within a single ad.
Amazing, eh?
We got together with our client, Yell, to launch the UK resourcing industry's first ever Google Gadget ad. "Talented digits" was the basic idea. People from around the world could upload and watch homemade videos of finger dancing (a recent YouTube craze), as well as getting the chance to play a related finger-themed game.
Most importantly, the ad also contained information about Yell, positioned them as an innovative employer, and encouraged talented digital professionals to apply for roles in marketing, technology and sales.
The ad appeared on hundreds of websites, including MySpace, Facebook, YouTube and LastFM.
And in the first nine days of the campaign, we recorded over a million (yes, a million) user interactions.
