TMP December 2021 Data Security Update
We were tasked with attracting a senior technology professional to develop the technology strategy and vision at UWE. Not only were we seeking scarce senior technical skills but cultural fit and alignment was vital.
• GENERATING HIGH LEVELS OF INTEREST
AND A STRONG LONGLIST OF HIGH QUALITY,
RESPONSIVE AND ENGAGED CANDIDATES
• ENSURING A GREAT CULTURE FIT IN ADDITION
TO TECHNOLOGY TRANSFORMATION SKILLS
• A BLEND OF SEARCH & ADVERTISING
Technology is increasingly vital to HE and the right strategy can deliver real competitive edge. But senior IT professionals are a rare breed and highly sought after by all sectors. How could UWE compete against the private sector to attract the top talent they needed to lead the function?
The previous CIO had done a great job over the previous 5+ years to transform the function by tackling the people and processes issues to future proof the University. Now it was time to lead the function to the next level of vision and service by defining the technology strategy to 2025 and delivering it. To do this, the university needed to bring in a highly credible and engaging CIO with experience implementing change and transformation within a large and complex organisation.
After taking a detailed brief from the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor it was very clear that softer skills and ‘cultural fit’ were as vital as technology knowledge & track record. To reach the widest pool of diverse quality candidates we supported the executive search with a light advertising campaign.
• 33 candidates longlisted
• 12 first stage interviews
• 5 final interviews
• 1 hire
