The University of Central Lancashire’s aim was to find a proven strategic leader who could come in and merge two schools into a larger Business and Enterprise School. Positioning the opportunity within the sector and communicating the vision for the Business School at an early stage of the formation proved an essential part in the successful hire.

UCLan had been through a strategic review and had decided to reposition the Business School, to offer a more modern approach to study across the ‘business’ disciplines. The market was getting more competitive and they needed to be more attractive to be able to compete nationally, internationally and grow student numbers.
It was anticipated that if UCLan just used media platforms for the role, they would not be able to reach all possible candidates. We worked closely with the Executive Dean to identify all suitable individuals. He provided interesting insight of the position, which gave us a leading edge when engaging with candidates.
We had a thorough brief from the Executive Dean who highlighted the importance of timing when forming a new school of business and enterprise. The merging of two existing schools into a larger one required considerable change for the university and the people involved. We provided a clear plan of action to the Executive Dean who made himself available whenever we had further questions to put to him. His responsiveness and willingness to collaborate with us played a big part in the success of the campaign. By harnessing our research expertise to identify relevant individuals, we were able to locate 84 people with the skills required to make a successful hire.
