As well as a centrepiece – a carefully crafted wooden object – that doubled as an interactive game was exactly what Kent County Council (Kent CC) needed. Without losing any of the charm, we created content around the board-game to be used across a digital platform. There’s even the potential to turn this into a virtual or augmented experience.
The challenge
The challenge was a simple one. But that didn’t mean it wasn’t important to approach this with a fresh perspective. Research found that Kent CC needed to massively improve on their low internal engagement within Adult Social Services. Kent is a very big county. Important information was getting lost in translation across the four regions.
The majority of people working at Kent CC knew very little about the opportunities, benefits, and well-being initiatives available to them. Creating a knock-on effect among employees and further reducing engagement.
The solution
Like a lot of great ideas, our board game idea was sparked by research that uncovered a disenfranchisement with the organisation and colleagues.
Our Creative Team then translated this lack of engagement into an interactive physical board game, wrote around 100 questions with EVP related answers and designed, printed, and constructed the game using a laser-cutter and hours of dedication. Our Client Services Team kept Kent CC onside and believing in our seemingly bonkers idea!
How we collaborated
The Game of Kent Life. A beautifully, laser-cut, hand painted and assembled board game, big enough for a boardroom centrepiece but small enough to be used in conjunction with hiring events.
A documentary style launch film. We sent a skeleton crew down to Kent CC to deliver and document Kent colleagues playing, engaging and giving us their real-time reaction to the game.
Social Media assets to be shared on all relevant channels and platforms. Using the above physical assets, we were able to digitally document the whole process and interactivity into bite size assets for the campaign and general use.
Results
Here’s what the leader of the council had to say about our work…
“We’re really excited to bring this out to our teams as part of their development. It’s such a versatile game in terms of how we can use it for different events with different members of staff here in Adult Social Care.”
Sydney Hill, Assistant Director, Adult Social Care
