Coming up with a creative idea is a bit like dating.
At first, it’s just endless options. You go through possibilities hoping something catches your attention. Most ideas get rejected instantly for reasons nobody can properly explain. Too obvious. Too weird. Too much like something your ex already did.
Every now and then though, something catches your eye. There’s a spark. A fission. Something. You can’t explain why, but you’re interested. Ok… let’s see where this goes.
You barely know them, but already you’re imagining a future together. Maybe it’s brilliant. Maybe it changes your life. Maybe other people will look at you differently because you’re next to them. (I know, I’m shallow like that.)

Then come the first few dates where you dig a little deeper for a better understanding and what makes them tick, what’s at the core of their story, what motivates them.
Does it actually have substance, or does it just look good? Will my friends reject them? So many questions.
Some are exciting at first but fall apart the moment you spend real time with them. They don’t make sense, you try to justify it. But it just feels wrong. Trust your gut and get out while you can.
But the good ones reveal layers. They surprise you. The more time you spend with them, the more interesting they become.
The honeymoon phase begins. You become completely irrational. Everything about them feels amazing. Tiny flaws become “part of its charm.” “They’re authentic, real, complex.” “No one understands you like I do.”

You talk about them constantly. You bring them up with friends. “This might be the one.”
And like all relationships, eventually reality arrives. This is the stage where you figure out whether you’re genuinely compatible or just temporarily obsessed.
Ask yourself: can this survive pressure? What happens when it gets tough? I find them funny, but what if my friends think they are offensive?
Infatuation is easy. Longevity is harder.
Some ideas are just short flings. Fun, intense, memorable, and that’s ok. You can look at them fondly. It’s part of the journey – they made you the person you are today. But very rarely, once in a blue moon, you find one worth committing to. An idea worth deleting all the others for.
An idea that still feels exciting after all the overthinking, all the doubts, all the difficult conversations. The kind where, even after seeing the flaws clearly, you still choose it.
They have your heart and you mind. They still feel right after years of living together. Still feel fresh, still get you up in the morning and excited about what the future holds.
So. Keep searching for the one. They might just complete you.
