When someone asks me why have you stayed so long? The answer remains the same, the people. And not the same people as when I started over a decade ago, that has changed a lot, but the culture that attracts and retains some of the best, brightest and funniest people I’ve worked with.
Culture Champions
These people don’t have the job title, or part of it as their job description, it is just how they are. The environment is better because they weave themselves through it.
Whether they help organise the socials, the charitable food drive or invite the new person to join them at lunch. They’re inclusive, warm and part of what makes being in work more enjoyable.

Lead From the Front
Culture is always stronger when led from the front. Having a beer at the work social instantly feels more acceptable when you see your manager having one too.
Seeing managers and leaders prioritise wellbeing, relationship building, office attendance… it all signals, they don’t just say these things are important, their actions confirm it.

Celebrate, Together
Whether it’s a business win, a new person joining the team, a cultural holiday or pride month. Bringing people together and sharing the spirit of the celebration allows people to share themselves and bedrock inclusivity at the core of the organisation.
Give people free reign to put what they want into that social calendar. Some of my favourite memories have been exactly that.

Space Meets Spirit
We recently got a bit of budget for a face lift, lick of paint, some fancy cameras, whiteboard scribes, speakers in the ceiling and new communal seating.
The blending of virtual and physical will now be easier as the technology has been designed for it. And well, where there is bunting, how can there not be joy and togetherness!
